How it Works
Generation Hope mentors are caring individuals, families, organizations, and businesses that invest in the educational success of teen parents and their children across the Washington, D.C. Metro Area. They are doctors, stay-at-home moms, business owners, and professionals from varying backgrounds and walks of life. They share a common characteristic though -- a passion for making a difference through education.
Sponsors are individuals who work with teen parents in college one-on-one. To find out more about what it means to be a Sponsor, please continue reading below. Resource Families are groups of individuals, often families, who come together to support a Scholar and their child. Resource Families are a part of Next Generation Academy. To learn more about Resource Families, please click here.
Sponsors provide either $1,200/year for a community college student or $2,400/year for a four-year college student in college tuition support as well as one-on-one mentoring until the Scholar graduates. It is a direct-giving, hands on experience.
New Sponsors are recruited each year and begin in the program in July. In order to be matched with a Scholar by July, Sponsor Applications must be submitted by June 1st. Sponsoring a Generation Hope Scholar is a multi-year commitment -- you are financially and emotionally investing in a Scholar until they earn a two or four-year degree.
Sponsors live in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area. However, individuals, organizations, and businesses located anywhere can provide financial-only sponsorships to make college a reality for teen parents in our program. If you're interested in a financial-only sponsorship, please contact Director of Programming Caroline Griswold Short at email@example.com or 202-642-5649.
